I had an awesome time high-fiving hundreds of kids. That’s the first float starting and the last float leaving. The parade is about 45 minutes from start to finish.
It’s a short route, but the parade goes slow. We went from Main Street USA to The Hub to Frontierland. I don’t think I had ever seen so many happy kids. We waved and high-fived every little kid we saw and told them to have fun and enjoy the parade. Jungle Girl took the right side of the street and I took the left. It was so much fun, but ridiculously hot. It was our job to open the gate for the parade and then lead it out while staying about 10 feet in front of it. We grabbed the least nasty-looking Mickey gloves we could find and got into our positions at the gate. Disney has the best hopscotchs.Īfter a few more minutes of set up, Jungle Girl and I returned backstage to get ready for the parade. It was a cool Disney hopscotch because it had a castle at the end of it. We also watched a guy tape out hopscotch. The poles and ropes needed to be put out and the parade activates, known as pactivities (hula hoop, hopscotch), needed setting up. Jungle Cruise Girl and I walked around the parade route and helped to set up some ropes and poles. There was still about an hour before the parade started, so there was a lot of set-up to do. There was a girl, who worked at Jungle Cruise normally, that had also picked up the shift and she was the other parade escort. This means I had to walk in front of the parade, wave to people while wearing Mickey gloves and high-five little kids. The job I got was one of two parade escorts. He also gave us our assignments for the parade route. The manager told everyone what to look out for, like people with their feet in the street and people sitting on trash cans. Our meeting started a few minutes later with everyone scattered around the room. Most of them knew each other because they did PAC regularly. There were about 30 other people also there for parade control. It turns out I was right because we went up a flight of stairs that led to the briefing room for PAC.
They looked like they knew what they were doing a lot more than I did. The ticket and wristband are issued subject to the Parklife Express bus operator’s Conditions of Carriage and Metrolink Conditions of Carriage (which are available at from Metrolink Customer Services on 0161 2052000).When I got to the right area of backstage, I followed some people who were dressed like me in the same black pants and vest with white shirt. If you cannot produce, upon request, a valid wristband for your journey on Parklife Express, you will not be allowed to board the service and on Metrolink, you may be liable to pay the £100 standard fare. They must be presented to authorised Parklife or Metrolink personnel on request. Tickets and wristbands are not transferable, non-refundable and not valid if defaced. Weekender tickets are valid on both days. Your travel wristband is valid for one return journey between Manchester city centre and Heaton Park on the date(s) specified on your ticket.
